USPTO Continues Crackdown on Fraudulent Trademark Filings

简体中文

The USPTO continues to strengthen its efforts to protect the integrity of the U.S. trademark register.

According to a recent USPTO Trademark Alert (https://www.uspto.gov/subscription-center/2026/fighting-fraud-uspto-targets-10500-invalid-trademark-filings), in the past six months the agency has issued 11 administrative orders targeting the removal of approximately 10,500 trademark applications and registrations.

These administrative orders address a range of misconduct, including unauthorized practice of law, improper signatures, false application information, and attempts to mislead applicants by impersonating the USPTO or inventing non-existent filing requirements and fees.

The USPTO’s Trademarks Register Protection Office continues to enforce rules relating to certifications, signatures, terms of use, and verified account agreements to prevent improper filings and protect legitimate trademark owners.

For trademark applicants and brand owners, this development serves as a reminder to carefully select qualified filing representatives, particularly when considering low-cost or non-attorney filing services, and to ensure that applicant information, signatures, and filings remain accurate and compliant with USPTO rules.

While the USPTO’s continued enforcement may help reduce clutter on the register, it also underscores the importance of keeping trademark filings clean, accurate, and compliant.
