The Bahamas to Join the PCT as 159th Contracting State

Effective August 19, 2026, The Bahamas will officially become the 159th Contracting State of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), significantly modernizing the country's patent framework. From that date, international applicants will be able to designate The Bahamas (country code: BS), while local inventors gain direct access to the global PCT system. Further details on official fees and national phase entry requirements will be published by WIPO in due course — an important update to factor into Caribbean filing strategies.
