OBWB Announces IPTP 2026
What is the Intellectual Property Training Program (IPTP)?
The IPTP is a program designed to educate participants in the law and practice of Intellectual Property (“IP”). While all aspects of IP (patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets) will be introduced, the emphasis will be on patents and, in particular, on how to prepare and prosecute effective patent applications. Participants generally have a high level of technical education and experience but minimal exposure to intellectual property. Other participants may have significant IP experience in other jurisdictions but wish to learn more about U.S. and other IP practices.
The IPTP is organized in three phases:
PHASE ONE
• Introduction to the four types of IP
• Basics of IP protection
• The role of IP in business strategy
• Introduction to patent law
• International tools for protecting innovation
• Introduction to the four types of IP

PHASE TWO
• Detailed focus on patent preparation and claim drafting
• Practical, hands-on exercises
• Fundamentals of patent prosecution
• Intermediate concepts in patent law
• Detailed focus on patent preparation and claim drafting
• Practical, hands-on exercises
• Fundamentals of patent prosecution
• Intermediate concepts in patent law
PHASE THREE
• Advanced patent drafting and prosecution
• “Real life” work under supervision of a qualified mentor
• Patent infringement and enforcement
• Intermediate concepts in copyright and trademark law
• International patent strategy; multi-jurisdictional approaches
SCHEDULE
The IPTP Phase One features a series of twelve classes which will run from the first week of January, 2026, through the first week of February, 2026. Class #1 will start on January 5, 2026 (5:00 pm CT). To see the complete phase one course schedule, please click here.
